Versilia

Versilia, a world-renowned place of entertainment. With its many kilometres of splendid beaches it offers all possible and imaginable comforts for tourists who spend their holidays in these beautiful locations. Not just beaches, sun, discos, pubs and restaurants, but also such cultural entertainment as the Puccini Festival, when all the operas by the composer from Lucca are performed against the wonderful backdrop of Torre del Lago, Viareggio, where Giacomo Puccini lived. Versilia is also a starting-off point for excursions to the nearby Apuan Alps and the marble quarries in the Carrara area. Upper Versilia also offers a dip in nature: Lucca’s mountain territory, the Garfagnana, is easily reached in just a few kilometres from here. So-called “Historical Versilia” is composed of four municipalities: Pietrasanta, the ancient chief town and captaincy, Forte dei Marmi, Seravezza and Stazzema. The latter two form Upper Versilia because their territories lie mainly in the Apuan Alps and foothills. From a geographical point of view, “Historical Versilia” extends from the Cinquale canal in the north to the Motrone canal in the south and corresponds to what was once the Captaincy of Pietrasanta.
